The search engine’s Chinese name ‘Gu Ge ‘ is a transliteration of the English word “Google”, and means “harvesting song”. It was used last April to attract more Chinese web users to this search engine.
Beijing Guge Science and Technology, a Chinese company, is now suing the search engine’s China subsidiary, alleging that Google’s registered Chinese name is too similar to its own, and that the phone calls from people mistakenly thinking they are calling Google when dialing this company’s phone number, are disrupting this company’s business.
It’s not clear from the article, why the locals would attempt to contact the Chinese office of Google, when one can do everything online without ever needing to dial the phone numbers, ringing in the search engine’s office.
